Book Reports

The students did a fabulous job in presenting their mystery book reports. The costumes added to the presentations. Many students discovered through the presentations new mysteries they want to read in the future!

The students will be required to read a biography for the next report. We will begin working on a timeline project onOctober 10th in class. A snack size Pringle can will be needed for the project; they can be found at QT or Reasor's

Fourth Grade Mass

The fourth gade students had the honor of participating at Fridays all school Mass as the readers and gift bearers. Each student who read did a fantastic job! I apppreciate the time and effort they put into preparing for the liturgy. The gift bearers carried the gifts with respect and knew exactly what to do.

Week of September 19th - 23

Parent Conferences

Thanks to each parent who attended parent conferences. It was wonderful to get to know each parent and to learn more about each student. Starting this week I will no longer be signing each and every planner. This is a time consuming activity and many students are ready to manage this task on their own. Some students still need to practice this task a little longer. Continue to sign the planner if your child comes home with it stamped.

Biography Book Report

Fourth grade students will be required to read a biography book for the next book report. By the end of this week they should begin reading a biography that I have approved. There are a number of biographies in my classrooom library as well as the school library. The students will have an opportunity to check one out this week. They may also bring one from home that they have not previously read. The book should be finished by October 7th. We will begin working on the next book report in class on Monday, October 10th. Each student will need a snack size Pringles can, they look just like a standard can except they are about 1/3 the size. I have seen these at QT and Reasors in the past. We will be making a timeline, so please have your child keep the biography book they read until the project is finished.

Greek Week

Greek Week was a tremendous success and was truly enjoyed by the students. My homeroom students performed Pandora's Box at an all school assembley, they learned about several Greek God's, read many Greek Myths,  and attended the Greek Festival. At the festival the students were able to visit the Greek Orthodox Church, ate a Greek meal and participatet in Greek dancing. This was a great learning experience for the students thanks to Mrs. Oakley and Ms. Iten who visited Greece last summer.

September 6, 2011

"I will live each day to the fullest."

Thank you to each parent who came to Back to School Night! We had an excellent turn out. If you were unable to attend your child was given handouts to give to you.

Binder

Please sign your child's homework planner nightly. It is important for the students to get in the habit of filling out the planner correctly and opening it up at home to verify the assignments that need to be completed. In addition encourage your child to place all completed work in their red folder and empty out the keep at home side of the red folder each evening. Mrs. Oakley and I are working very hard to help each student develop strong organizational skills.

Spelling

Each week students will be tested on the basic word list and the challenge word list. The challenge words will be given in dictation sentences. Please remind your child to study each list every week.

Greek Week

September 12th the entire school will be participating in Greek Week. Mrs. Oakley and Mrs. Iten received grant money to visit Greece this past summer. With their valuable first hand knowledge they will guide us through a wonderful week of Greek imersion. Many fun and exciting activities are planned. Thank you to the many parents who will be driving to the Greek Festival.
